Day Six

This is from a photo, not from life, however I was uninspired by the things on my desk. I attempted some blending with a tortillion. I think my blending has slightly improved over the last week, but it is still early days yet. I still have a lot to learn about light and shadow and how to achieve a larger tonal range with my charcoal pencil.

I am satisfied with the eye and bottom of the beak and wattle, but not very happy with the comb. I started with a rough outline, then filled out the features a little more, completed the feathers, then did the details of the eye and shading. The comb was last and I am least happy with that.

This took me around 25-30 minutes. I'm really happy with my efforts tonight.
